Some mornings you wake up feeling less than tropical. With that in mind, how to glow up when you’re looking distinctly glow-less?
You might’ve had an early night, no Pinot, and the cleanest of dinners, but you look in the mirror and just think “Eugh”. Without further ado, let’s check my list of 10 glow up tips.
1. Get Up And Get Moving
The first thing if you want to learn how to glow up, is to get up and get moving! Lying in bed, playing Candy Crush is NOT the way to start the morning. You’ll spend the day thinking about flying fish and “if I’d only had one more move”.
If you have to lie in bed messing with your iPhone, avoid the mind-numbing games and fill your Instagram full of inspirational people to follow. For example, there’s nothing like seeing beautiful beaches, sunrises and cute kittens to set your mood for the day.
2. Use An Uplifting Shower Gel
Just give your bod a bloody good scrub. Then, try anything with grapefruit, or lemon both of which have mood enhancing properties. Clarins Eau de Jardins Uplifting shower gel is delicious, but at $42.00 a bottle. For this reason, it’s probably not an everyday choice.
In fact, the new Satsuma Body Wash from The Body Shop smells divine and is bound to get even the most sluggish of us moving.
3. Slather Yourself In A Refreshing Body Lotion
The lotion below has Tarocco Orange, Eucalyptus and Sage to freshen and condition the skin. Who doesn’t want to be fresher AND smoother straight out the shower?
4. Use A Facial Moisturiser That Has An Inbuilt Glow
For example, you can buy Aveeno’s Positively Radiant SPF15 (you’ll need a facial sunscreen as well in summer). Surely, it’ll just give your skin that well rested, plumped up look that we all yearn for.
5. Find An Under Eye Concealer That Lightens And Brightens
The original YSL Touche Éclat has been imitated by so many of the cheaper brands that you can achieve the same look for far less money.
So look for one that promises brightening. As a matter of fact, my current favorite is Rimmel’s Match Perfect Concealer (see here) which is a brightener and concealer in one. It comes in three shades, so you can get the perfect match, and is around ten bucks from Priceline.
6. Skip The Heavy Base And Apply A Pinky Coral Blush
Firstly, smile and then apply to just above the apples of your cheeks. When you stop smiling, the flush of color will be in exactly the right place.
7. It’s All About The Gloss
I know lots of people recommend a bright pop of color on the lips to lift your mood, but on aging lips it can be the wrong choice. However, an easier, and quicker pick-me-up is a sheer gloss with plenty of fine sparkle. In addition, it’s youthful and easy enough to apply at the traffic lights.
Moreover, I love Revlon Colourburst glosses, particularly Peony, shown below. You can pick up this for around $14.
8. Wear Your Favorite Scent
Whether it be an uplifting, feel good fragrance like Clarins’ Eau Dynamisante, or one that brings back fabulous memories, choose one that makes you feel good. In my case, I’m currently wearing Donna Karan’s Be Delicious which is fresh and light. In fact, it’s perfect for these 40 degree days we’re having.
